Booker Statement on Senate Vote to Avert Government Shutdown

Press Release

Date: Sept. 30, 2023
Location: Washington, DC

"I'm relieved that a crisis manufactured by Republicans in the House is on track to be narrowly avoided. I'm beyond frustrated that it came to this, at the 11th hour.

Times like these demand leadership that puts our country first. Not party, not position, but country. The kind of leadership that's been missing among too many House Republicans.

The people of Ukraine are on the front lines of the fight for democracy and freedom. Our commitment to standing by Ukraine and our shared values will continue to be unwavering. I am confident the Senate will continue to support sustained funding and assistance for Ukraine as they continue the fight to defend their homeland from Putin's unjust and illegal war.

I'm encouraged that Democrats and Republicans in the Senate joined together in efforts to prevent a shutdown. I'm proud that House Democrats stood up to extremists to preserve essential programs that Americans count on. And I look forward to voting on a Ukraine supplemental bill as soon as possible."
