Location: Washington, DC

Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) issued the following statement regarding a deal to provide contract legislation for railway workers that includes paid sick leave:

"Rail workers have worked tirelessly to provide services to American commuters, and we simply cannot turn our back on them and their families now when they need us the most," said Espaillat. "I am proud that my Congressional Progressive Caucus colleagues and I, along with leadership, announced a deal that allows our chamber to pass contract legislation for railway workers that includes paid sick leave.

"President Biden has called on Congress to take action to protect the economic security of America's working families, and I stand ready to assist by taking critical legislative action today to avert a devastating nationwide rail strike, further disruptions to the national supply train, and catastrophe travel delays for families amid the busy holiday travel season.

"Today, my congressional House colleagues and I will take up urgent legislation to adopt the Tentative Agreement reached after months of hard-fought negotiations, with a critical amendment to provide paid sick leave. We stand by rail workers and will find solutions to keep rail services and transportation running around the country."
