Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21) issued the following statement regarding his vote against S. 3895:
"The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) was established with a noble mission that I broadly believe in -- to fight for religious liberty across the globe. And I've worked with USCIRF before, particularly regarding Finland's religious persecution of Päivi Räsänen and Bishop Pohjola, and my good friend Tony Perkins previously served on the Commission.
But like most government commissions, USCIRF has strayed from its original mission and lost its focus. Rather than purely defending international religious freedom, USCIRF can now be found championing "beliefs" encompassing radical gender ideologies that are antithetical to the very freedom of religion USCIRF was created to defend. To ever support reauthorizing it - not to mention funding it - USCIRF must restore focus to its mission and return to advocating for international religious freedom."
