Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), co-chair of the Congressional Job Corps Caucus, supported the approval of H.R. 7309, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. This bill would reauthorize vital workforce training and apprenticeship programs as well as expand program eligibility to more Americans. The bill was approved by a vote of 220-196.

"Our country's job market is evolving and our workforce must keep pace. The programs supported by this bill will robustly engage Americans -- especially young Americans -- to help prepare them for jobs and make sure American businesses have the skilled labor they need to be successful," said Congressman Bishop. "Among the programs reauthorized by this bill is the Job Corps program which supports the Turner Job Corps Center in Albany, Georgia. It is just one example of how this legislation supports building and strengthening mutually beneficial connections between employers, educational institutions, and job training to help local economies flourish."
