Congressman Earl Blumenauer (OR-03) Applauds House Passage of America COMPETES Act

Press Release

Date: April 1, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Representative Earl Blumenauer, Chair of the Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee released the following statement after the House took an important step toward appointing a conference committee to reconcile the differences between the America COMPETES Act and U.S. Innovation and Competition Act (USICA):

"The House spoke with a strong bipartisan voice to initiate the conference committee between the America COMPETES Act and USICA. It is critical we align on legislation to strengthen supply chains, modernize the U.S. economy, compete with China, and support American workers," said Rep. Earl Blumenauer. "Support has grown for the America COMPETES Act since the House passed the legislation in early February.

"Business and organized labor alike have stood together to strongly advocate for the trade provisions contained in the America COMPETES Act, which are pro-worker and tough on China. Renewing Trade Adjustment Assistance, the Generalized System of Preferences, and the Miscellaneous Tariff Bill will support American workers at home and abroad and give American businesses long-term certainty. Provisions to end China's exploitation of the de minimis loophole and strengthen our trade remedy laws are appropriately tough.

"I will continue to advocate for these provisions to be included in any final conference agreement."
