Daines Announces Over $53 Million to Support Outdoor Recreation & Conservation of Montana National Forests

U.S. Senator Steve Daines today announced $53,639,674 will be allocated to support outdoor recreation and conservation on Montana national forests. These resources are provided through Daines' bipartisan "Great American Outdoors Act" (GAOA).

"The "Great American Outdoors Act' was one of the greatest conservation victories in the past 50 years. I'm glad to see Montana national forests and public lands across the country receive important resources to support outdoor recreation and conservation through this historic bill," Daines said. "As a fifth generation Montanan and avid outdoorsman, I look forward to seeing the continued implementation of the conservation bill to support Montana outdoor recreation and public lands."

The following Montana national forests and projects are receiving grants through the GAOA:

$6,963,674 to Custer Gallatin National Forest
$1,510,000 to Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest
$ 2,450,000 to Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest
$1,300,000 to Bitterroot National Forest
$10,809,000 to Lolo National Forest
$4,292,000 to Kootenai National Forest
$6,315,000 to Flathead National Forest
$20,000,000 to the Montana Great Outdoors Conservation Project

Background:

Daines was instrumental in securing the passage and implementation of the "Great American Outdoors Act."

The GAOA passed the U.S. Senate in June 2020 and was signed into law by President Trump in August 2020.

In February 2022, Daines, the top Republican on the Senate National Parks Subcommittee, led a hearing on the implementation of the historic GAOA.
