Governor Signs Bill Prohibiting Touchplay Machines

Urges legislators to continue their work in education and health care reform, improving Iowa's water quality and transforming the economy

Governor Tom Vilsack signed Senate File 2330 today, an Act prohibiting monitor vending machines to take effect immediately. After 45 days, machines still in operation will be subject to an additional 65 percent excise tax.

"I look forward to closing this chapter in our legislative session and working with lawmakers on the work Iowans elected us to do - ensuring Iowa's kids are prepared for the challenges of the global economy, lowering the costs of healthcare so that Iowa businesses can remain competitive, building a pathway to a stronger bio-economy and protecting our state's valuable natural resources."

"I understand that legislators are looking at extending the deadline for removal of these machines. I would support that measure, as well as measure that would dedicate Touchplay revenues to mitigate any negative impact the removal of these machines may have on small businesses."
