Location: Laredo, Texas

Today, U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced a federal grant of $135,000 that will support efforts to develop and preserve affordable housing, revitalize existing communities, sustain neighborhoods, and create jobs throughout Webb and Zapata Counties.

The funding will be used to support homeownership education, foreclosure counseling services, and access to partnerships that offer down payment assistance.

"NeighborWorks Laredo works tirelessly to expand homeownership opportunities to residents across south Texas. It is imperative that the organization continues to receive federal funding so that it can grow its homebuyer education and counseling programs and partnerships," said Congressman Cuellar. "I will always support organizations that help my constituents achieve a healthy and stable lifestyle. As an elected official representing south Texas, I will continue prioritizing efforts that develop and preserve affordable housing to ensure that our friends and family members have the comfort of a safe home. This is policy that not just supports families, but also supports the wider community with investment and jobs. Thank you to the Laredo city officials, and the NeighborWorks leadership, for their dedication and service to our community."

"We are very happy to receive the $135,000 grant award from NeighborWorks America. This grant will help us continue with our operations brining equitable housing opportunities to the community. We believe that equitable housing is a basic human right and year after year we reach out and invite the community, especially low-income families to receive the education and counseling they need in becoming homeowners," said NeighborWorks Laredo CEO, Elizabeth Alonzo-Villareal. "We thank Congressman Henry Cuellar for his continued support and approving funding recommendations so that our NeighborWorks Laredo organization is assisted with operational funds to continue doing the great work that we do in our community."

"Every day NeighborWorks network organizations are helping people obtain critical resources to allow them access to affordable housing," said NeighborWorks America President & CEO Marietta Rodriguez. "At NeighborWorks America, we realize the lack of affordable housing is a real problem for many Americans. Stable, affordable housing is a foundation for healthy families and thriving communities."

Congressman Cuellar secured $163,000,000 for the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation (dba NeighborWorks America) in the FY22 omnibus appropriations legislation. NeighborWorks Laredo is a NeighborWorks America network organization and will receive $135,000 grant to further its mission through homeowner counseling sessions and education efforts.
