Breaking: Sinema Advances Renewal of the Violence Against Women Act, Preventing Domestic Violence and Protecting Arizona Women and Families

Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema applauded the renewal of the Violence Against Women Act in the Fiscal Year 2022 government funding bill -- legislation she helped shaped and voted to pass.

The renewal of the Violence Against Women Act boosts funding for programs protecting Arizona women and families, preventing domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking while improving access to essential support services such as healthcare and safe housing for all survivors.

"I'm proud lawmakers from both sides of the aisle came together and renewed the Violence Against Women Act, boosting programs protecting Arizona women and families, ensuring law enforcement -- including Tribal authorities -- have the tools needed to crack down on abusers, and supporting survivors in Arizona and across the country," said Sinema.

One of Sinema's first victories in Congress was leading the successful fight to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act in 2013. Working with members of both parties, she ensured the renewal included provisions that gave Tribal governments new tools to protect women.

Since the Violence Against Women Act expired in 2019, Sinema has fought to renew the law and ensure stronger protections for survivors, women, and families across Arizona.
