Hickenlooper Secures Over $100 Million For Colorado Communities in Annual Funding Bills

Statement

Date: March 10, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper today announced that he successfully included $100.4 million in funding for 64 projects across Colorado in the fiscal year 2022 federal appropriations omnibus bill, which Congress is finalizing in the coming days. Hickenlooper requested funding for the Colorado projects through the congressionally directed spending (CDS) process. The bills passed the House last night and are expected to pass the Senate in the coming days.

"Colorado's local communities drove these federal investments. These funds will accelerate much-needed projects across the state," said Hickenlooper.

The 64 projects for which Hickenlooper secured funding would address priorities across the state, including investments in affordable housing, clean energy, and health care. Examples include:

$3 million to convert a 71 unit hotel into affordable housing in Durango
$2 million to convert the Stay Inn into housing for individuals experiencing homelessness in Denver
$2.5 million for a Southern Ute Tribe methane capture project
$1 million for a soil carbon sequestration project at Colorado State University in Fort Collins
$2 million for the Boys and Girls Club mental health initiative
$2 million for a Colorado Coalition for the Homeless health care facility in Denver
$1.1 million to create a mechanical engineering program at the Adams State University Campus in Alamosa
$1 million for the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus to grow the pipeline underrepresented students seeking admission to STEM and health professional programs
To qualify, CDS requests must be submitted by local governments or non-profits. Senators may then request inclusion of these projects in one of the twelve annual funding bills. The Senate is expected to send the final 2022 federal appropriations bills to President Biden in the coming days.

A full list of projects for which Hickenloper secured funding is available below. Projects in italics were requested jointly with Senator Michael Bennet; projects with an asterisk were requested jointly with a member of the House.
