Sinema, Mesa Mayor Giles Tour Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, Discuss Infrastructure Needs

Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema toured the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport with Mesa Mayor John Giles and received a briefing on the airport's operations, planned projects, and investments to be used from Sinema's bipartisan infrastructure law.

"Today's tour provided us a first-hand look at our bipartisan infrastructure law in action, and I'm proud to have Mayor Giles as a key bipartisan partner in strengthening economic opportunities for Arizonans," said Sinema, Chair of the Senate Aviation Subcommittee.

Sinema and Mayor Giles discussed the local infrastructure needs and federal funding the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs law that Sinema co-wrote and negotiated. Both Sinema and the Mayor received briefings from Mesa-Phoenix Gateway Airport leadership on future projects and need for federal support.

While writing and negotiating the bipartisan infrastructure law, Sinema ensured the legislation included significant resources for major upgrades to every airport in Arizona. This historic investment will create jobs, improve passenger safety, boost tourism, and ensure Arizona continues its leadership in aviation.

Arizona airports are expected to receive a total of at least $360 million in additional federal support over the next five years from Sinema's bipartisan infrastructure law. Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is slotted to receive $4.5 million this year, and over $22 million over the next five years.

Sinema led negotiations with Republican Senator Rob Portman of Ohio, eight other Senators--four from each party--and the White House to craft the legislation.
