Congresswoman Tenney Highlights Resources for Seniors Struggling Due to Inflation

Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) today highlighted resources that are available to seniors and others struggling due to skyrocketing inflation. Gas prices have recently reached record highs. The average price of a gallon of gas in New York now costs $4.46. Further, numbers released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics show that inflation rose 7.9% in February, the highest figure on record in more than four decades.

"Soaring inflation is making it more challenging for seniors and families to make ends meet. At my tele-town hall this past Tuesday, I heard concerns from seniors who were unsure of how they would be able to pay their bills. Even after receiving the largest Social Security cost-of-living increase in years, inflation has wiped away any gains our seniors may have made. In Congress, I am advocating for policies to provide immediate relief and to curb inflation's harmful effects. I am here to serve you, and I am fully committed to ensuring the resources of the federal government are readily available for everyone in New York's 22nd District," said Tenney.

Tenney is a cosponsor of the Senior Citizens Tax Elimination Act to ensure federal income taxes are not levied on seniors collecting Social Security. She also supports policies to drive down oil and natural gas costs, such as reopening federal lands to oil and gas drilling and restarting construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. Tenney is a cosponsor of the American Energy Independence From Russia Act to require the Biden Administration to submit an energy security plan evaluating energy imports posing a security risk, restart construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, and unleash U.S. liquified natural gas (LNG) exports to boost natural gas production.
