Letter to Hon. Joseph Biden, President of the United States - Hoeven Joins Cruz, Colleagues in Committing to Block Implementation of Any Iran Nuclear Deal Not Approved By Congress

Letter

Senator John Hoeven joined Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in urging President Biden to submit any new Iran nuclear deal to Congress for approval. In the letter, the Senators state the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act (INARA) requires the President to submit any Iran deal to Congress -- and they will block implementation of any deal not submitted.

"The Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015 ("INARA", 42 USC § 2160e) mandates that your administration submit to Congress for evaluation, within 5 days after it is reached, any agreement related to the nuclear program with Iran, as well as all related documents and side deals," the senators wrote. "The submission of such materials then triggers a statutorily-defined review process, and includes the possibility of Congress blocking implementation of the agreement."

Along with Hoeven and Cruz, the letter was signed by Senators Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), Roger Marshall (R-Kans.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Bill Cassidy (R-La.), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), John Boozman (R-Ark.), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Todd Young (R-Ind.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), John Kennedy (R-La.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Rob Portman (R-Ohio), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), John Thune (R-S.D.), James Risch (R-Idaho) and Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska).
