Issues: Transportation

Rep. Ruben Gallego (AZ-07) proudly announced a $176,038,057 investment in Arizona transit made available through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The funding, which enables Arizona transit agencies like Valley Metro to modernize and expand services, includes $99,631,345 in funding for the Phoenix-Mesa metro area.

"As the Valley continues to grow, our public transportation should meet the demand of our metro area's bustling economy," said Rep. Gallego. "Thanks to the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, I'm proud to see this investment of over $176 million make its way to Arizona. Whether to get to and from school, to the grocery store, or to work, providing Arizonans with reliable, modern transportation options is how we build transportation equity, create jobs in Arizona, and combat the climate crisis."

The investment is made available for the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and was unlocked with the passage of the FY22 federal spending bill. Because of the historic investments made through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, this increase in funding will allow Arizona transportation agencies the ability to buy new buses and railcars, modernize their transportation infrastructure, and deploy technologies to address the impact of the climate crisis, such as the impact of excess urban heat.

Arizona's funding comes from the more than $20 billion FTA announced for American transit under the greater Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that Rep. Gallego proudly voted for in Congress.
