Durbin Meets Virtually With Illinois Farm Bureau

U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), a member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, today met virtually with Illinois Farm Bureau members, who thanked him for his work to secure $829 million in federal funding to modernize Illinois locks and dams. During the meeting, the members also spoke about the importance of federal crop insurance in the upcoming farm bill, the challenges of the rising costs of fertilizer, COVID-19-induced trucking bottlenecks, and the importance of targeting funds towards rural infrastructure projects after the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).

"The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will be a boon for our Illinois farmers who rely on our rail, rivers, and roads to move their goods to market. Now, as the Senate begins to consider the upcoming farm bill, I want to ensure--one again--that the needs of our Illinois farmers are met," said Durbin. "I'll continue to advocate at the federal level for our state's farmers."
