Hoeven Reviews Progress on Dickinson Airport Runway Reconstruction & Extension Project

Senator John Hoeven today reviewed the $63 million runway reconstruction and extension project at the Dickinson Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport in a meeting with the airport's director, Kelly Braun, as well as Dickinson Mayor Scott Decker, Dickinson Airport Authority Board Chair Jeff Moore and Stark County Commission Chairman Dean Franchuck. Hoeven has been working as a member of the Senate Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Committee to fund the project, which is needed to increase the airport's operational capacity and ensure it can continue to safely and efficiently serve the region. To date, the project has received nearly $50 million in federal funding.

"The Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport fills an important role supporting the growth we've experienced in western North Dakota," said Hoeven. "This runway expansion is a needed investment to help meet increased demand for both passenger and cargo air service from businesses and families, but also to facilitate the growing use of agricultural air service in the region. I appreciate the opportunity to see the progress on this effort firsthand."

Between 2009 and 2019, boardings at the airport increased by nearly 170 percent, from approximately 9,000 passengers per year to nearly 24,000. In response, the airport began reconstructing Runway 14-32, which is being expanded to 7,300 feet long and 150 feet wide. The project was started in 2018 and is on schedule to be completed in the fall of 2022.
