Congresswoman Nikema Williams Secures Committee Passage of her Recommendation to Create a More Effective Congress for the People

Yesterday Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) secured committee passage of her recommendations to help make Congress more effective and efficient for the American people. The Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress (Modernization Committee) passed a recommendation from Congresswoman Williams calling for a legislative task force to expedite passage of popular legislation in both chambers of Congress. The task force would be a bipartisan, bicameral group.

The recommendations were part of a set of recommendations passed by the Modernization Committee. The recommendations are intended to enhance collaboration between members and bolster the effectiveness of congressional support agencies so members can make the most informed policy decisions. The Modernization Committee developed these recommendations after several fact-finding hearings in which Committee members heard from experts on workplace productivity, evidence-based lawmaking, and the heads of congressional support agencies.

"I often say in Congress I am operating in a system that was not designed by or for people who look like me, but I am determined to make it work," said Congresswoman Williams, who is a member of the Modernization Committee. "That's why I worked with the Modernization Committee to advance these recommendations to strengthen how Congress serves the people of Georgia's Fifth Congressional District. This set of recommendations contains common sense measures that would foster a collaborative culture Congress and encourage lawmakers to work across the aisle to advance strong, evidence-based policies. The Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress is a bipartisan, twelve-member committee. The Modernization Committee was established to investigate, study, make findings, hold public hearings, and develop recommendations to make Congress more efficient, effective, and transparent for the American people.
