Letter to Hon. Joe Biden, President - On Behalf of the World Dog Alliance

Letter

Dear President Biden,

Over 30 million dogs are slaughtered for food every year, among which 70% are stolen pets. The World Dog Alliance (WDA) is working with governments around the world to eradicate this horrific practice through legislation and international cooperation.

Since the domestic dog and cat meat ban was passed in the 2018 Farm Bill (H.R. 2, Sec. 12515), the United States Congress has called on the Administration to initiate the International Agreement to Prohibit the Eating of Dogs and Cats proposed by the WDA. Last year, a bipartisan group of 30 members of Congress sent a letter to former President Trump in support of this issue. This international agreement has garnered strong support worldwide with lawmakers in Japan, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Sweden having sent letters to their heads of government regarding this cause.

We respectfully urge you to initiate the International Agreement to Prohibit the Eating of Dogs and Cats. Outlawing dog and cat meat in the United States was an important first achievement, but it is critical that the practice end for good across the world. This will require a global framework for all countries to focus, coordinate, and integrate their efforts. The United States must step up as a global leader in this fight and defend the lives of cats and dogs everywhere.

Thank you for your consideration and your leadership in advancing the progress of this important issue.
