Statement

Date: Nov. 12, 2021
Location: Bern Township, PA

Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) delivered this week's Republican Address on ensuring America's veteran small business owners have the tools and economic environment necessary to succeed.

"And as if their service wasn't enough, so many of our nation's veterans have created and continue to build businesses and create opportunities and prosperity for Americans nationwide. There are over 2.5 million veteran-owned businesses that employ over 4 million Americans. I recently participated in the Small Business Committee's Veteran Small Business Roundtable […] to learn about the issues these Veteran business owners face, and how we can provide them a business environment in which they can succeed," Congressman Meuser says.

"Hearing the stories of how our American heroes made it from combat to Main Street and their experiences of creating jobs and enriching their communities was truly inspiring," he adds, "But, the general consensus was the same. Taxes, mandates, inflation, energy costs, product shortages, and labor shortages are smothering them. Causing uncertainty and threatening their viability."

"And they feel that the federal government is against them."

"Hello! I am Congressman Dan Meuser and I represent Pennsylvania's Ninth District. I am honored to be delivering this week's Republican Address.

"In Pennsylvania and throughout the country, Americans gathered on Veterans Day to pay tribute to our brave men and women for the sacrifices they made defending our freedoms and keeping us safe. On behalf of my Republican colleagues, I want to thank you for your service! The country is forever grateful to you and your families.

"And if their service wasn't enough, so many of our nation's veterans create opportunities and prosperity for Americans nationwide. There are 2.5 billion veteran-owned businesses that employ over 4 million Americans.

"Recently, I participated in the Small Business Committee's Veteran Small Business Roundtable led by Ranking Member Blaine Luetkemeyer and with participation from Leader McCarthy and Whip Scalise to learn about the issues these Veteran business owners face and how we can provide them a business environment in which they can succeed.

"Hearing the stories of how our American heroes made it from combat to Main Street and their experiences of creating jobs and enriching their communities was truly inspiring. But, the general consensus was the same. Taxes, mandates, inflation, energy costs, product shortages, and labor shortages are smothering them. Causing uncertainty and threatening their viability.

"And they feel that the federal government is against them.

"One perfect example is the fact that their businesses are being hit with vaccine mandates while the Biden Administration is releasing untested and unvaccinated illegals into our communities. Making matters worse, inflation is at a 30-year high. The recent inflation report shows that businesses are working harder to keep up with demand but lack the goods to do so.

"Now is the time for Congress to pass policies that will alleviate these pressures and allow our Main Street job creators to thrive.

"The recent elections made it clear that the American people are rejecting the left's extremist economic policies of tax and spending. As well as open borders, crime in the streets and woke school issues. Nevertheless, the out-of-touch Democrats are doubling down on failed and unpopular big government policies.

"Pushing through a 2,300 page Build Back Better Bologna Bill with trillions of dollars in spending and new taxes that includes;

$800 Billion in tax increases
Over $400 billion in small business tax hikes
Raises taxes on natural gas
Expands the IRS by hiring 87,000 new agents
And spends big on entitlement expansions that desensitize work and are ripe for fraud
"Which in the end will only exacerbate our current economic ills that their policies have created. Making it more difficult to do business in the U.S. and forcing companies and manufacturing overseas.

"To add more insult the Democrats just injected amnesty, with no secure borders, in this bill and enormous tax deductions that are far more beneficial to high income earners in New York and California than to hardworking people in Pennsylvania and in most of the country. Democrats would like you to believe this bill is $1.75 trillion and is paid for, but the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School has shown that it in fact will cost $4 trillion, and many of the paid for's are mythical.

"Folks, do not be fooled. This is the largest tax and spend plan since FDR!

"October's Jobs Report showed we are in an economic recovery in spite of what the Biden Administration has done for the past 10 months. Their Reconciliation bill, which I like to call reconciliation spelled with a "W " because it will wreak havoc on our economy by deepening all the negatives of the last 10 months, not mitigating the problems.

"This is economic malpractice! This will only grow Washington and hurt America.

"Our focus should be on strengthening the American workforce, being on the side of job creators, and being responsible with taxpayers' money. Certainly not adding hundreds of new government programs, and billions in new taxes, and spending that will hurt the American workforce, increase cost of living, and access to goods- particularly those that are American made.

"Voters showed they want Main Street open, people working, and putting children first in our schools. Folks, Republicans are listening.

"I end with one ask… Continue to call U.S. House & Senate Democrats and tell them to kill the reconciliation bill."
