Gottheimer Statement Honoring New Jersey Senate President Steve Sweeney

Statement

Date: Nov. 10, 2021
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Elections

Today, November 10, 2021, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) released the following statement:

"A great leader, who touched the lives of so many people in our great State, will be leaving the New Jersey Senate. Like Steve himself, his years at the helm of the Senate have been larger than life, and his presence will be missed from Warren County to Camden County. Steve has been an ideas machine, promoting common sense, pragmatism, and Democratic values. There wasn't a bill or a policy that didn't have his imprimatur, and that he didn't help navigate to passage.

Steve is just a regular guy, even with all he has accomplished. I have been lucky and proud to call Steve a good friend. Like so many others, he has always been there for me, and for that, I will always be grateful. We will all miss Steve's willingness to fight tough, driven by deep compassion, for those who need it the most -- for hardworking Jersey families, especially for his brothers and sisters in labor. After all, that's what ironworkers do.

This is not the last of Steve Sweeney, there are plenty of chapters left to write in his book, and I look forward to working closely with him in the years ahead. On behalf of everyone in New Jersey's Fifth District, I want to thank Steve for his grit, determination, and all he has done for the people of our State."
