Congresswoman Miller Selected to Join House Budget Committee

Press Release

Date: Sept. 27, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) today announced her selection to the United States House Committee on the Budget. While still serving on the Ways and Means Committee, Congresswoman Miller will temporarily fill a vacant Republican seat on the Budget Committee to continue fighting back against Democrats' irresponsible tax hikes and spending spree.

"I am pleased to join the Budget Committee during this pivotal time in our nation's history," said Congresswoman Miller. "We must rein in our spending, get people back to work, and get our economy back on track. If we don't, America will go down the path of socialism, handouts, and an insurmountable deficit. I look forward to working alongside my fellow Budget Committee Republicans to combat Democrats' irresponsible spending and tax hikes in order to protect the livelihoods of West Virginians now and for generations to come."

House Budget Committee Republican Leader Jason Smith (MO-08) added, "It's an honor to have Congresswoman Miller join us on the House Budget Committee and step right into the fight against the Democrats' tax and spending spree. Having served together on the House Ways and Means Committee, I know firsthand that Congresswoman Miller is a strong fiscal conservative who is focused on stopping the harm the Washington Democrats' latest efforts will do to the people of West Virginia. Together, we will push back against these reckless spending and tax hikes and the rampant inflation that is hurting working class families in the Mountain State and across America."

About the House Budget Committee:
The Budget Committee is responsible for developing the annual budget resolution. The budget resolution is a mechanism for setting forth aggregate levels of spending, revenue, the deficit or surplus, and public debt. Its purpose is to create enforceable parameters within which Congress can consider legislation dealing with spending and revenue.

The House of Representatives require that the Budget Committee's membership be composed of five members from the Committee on Ways and Means, five members from the Committee on Appropriations, and one member from the Committee on Rules. The Ways and Means Committee has jurisdiction over trade, taxes, and healthcare.
