Sen. Cramer Blasts Biden Administration Plan to Allow Nord Stream 2's Completion

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), a Senate Armed Services Committee member, issued the following statement today on the Biden Administration publishing a plan to allow the Nord Stream 2 pipeline to be completed without fear of action from the United States:

"President Biden allowing Nord Stream 2 to be completed is a slap in the face for U.S. energy producers and our NATO allies who are weary of giving Putin further control over Europe's energy supply. While the Biden Administration weakens U.S. energy production, it is now allowing a Russian pipeline to be built which will deliver dirtier gas and give a top adversary the ability to hold our allies hostage. The President's team, who consistently claimed they oppose the pipeline, are caving to pressure and backing a plan to build it. This backwards thinking hurts our credibility, flaunts the law, and will undoubtedly harm the United States and our friends across the globe. I urge my colleagues to support our legislation which would reinstate and expand the sanctions on Nord Stream 2 that the Biden Administration is waiving."

Senator Cramer is leading the Protecting Our Well-being by Expanding Russian Sanctions (POWERS) Act, a bill to build on recently-passed bipartisan sanctions against Russia and reinstate sanctions the Biden Administration is waiving on Russian people and entities involved in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
