Congressman Thompson: Friars Point Must Retain Banking Services

Statement

Date: Feb. 17, 2006
Location: Washington, DC

Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announced that he will join residents of Friars Point in their effort to retain access to financial services.

"I am convinced that the people of Friars Point, just like other communities, deserve access to financial services. Without a bank or credit union available, the community would be forced to function at a significant disadvantage. The coalition of local concerned citizens has teamed with my office to make sure that this bank doesn't just pack up and leave. We refuse to sit by and watch this community dry up just because a bank decided that the residents didn't need financial services. There must be a feasible alternative and the federal regulators, whose help we have enlisted, will help us to do that."
