Bachus Statement on Bibb County Church Burnings

BACHUS STATEMENT ON BIBB COUNTY CHURCH BURNINGS

WASHINGTON - Congressman Spencer Bachus, whose district includes Bibb County, today made the following statement after visiting the sites of the five churches that were burned:

"My deepest sympathies are with the residents of Bibb County and members of the affected churches. Federal, state and local resources are being deployed to find those responsible for these despicable acts. Bibb County Sheriff Keith Hannah today led me to see the destruction at all five sites; I was appalled and saddened by the damage to these places of worship.

"During the visit, I was able to meet with investigative teams on the case and talk with members of the churches. All crime scenes have been secured, and law enforcement officials dispersed throughout the area.

"The effort to restore the churches and rebuild their places of worship will take financial, moral and physical support. During times like this, communities must band together. Undoubtedly, people throughout our area will want to contribute to help repair the damage. Please give as you are able.

"My prayers are with the people of Bibb County, and we hope they can soon begin to heal."
