Ros-Lehtinen Responds To Announcement Of SBA Funding To Monroe County

Washington, DC --- Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is encouraged with the announcement of federal disaster assistance to Monroe County business owners for their losses during a destructive 2005 hurricane season. The Small Business Administration (SBA) informed the Congresswoman that the agency has approved $22,365,100 in disaster loan assistance for Monroe County businesses owners thus far.

Said Ros-Lehtinen: "Helping the Monroe business community rebuild following these terrible disasters is one of my top priorities. While I am pleased with the announcement of SBA federal assistance to these business owners, much more funding is still needed."

Under its disaster assistance program, the SBA provides two loan options to business owners seeking federal assistance following a natural disaster. Small businesses are eligible for an economic injury disaster loan to mitigate economic losses, while businesses of any size may obtain loans to finance the physical reconstruction of a business.

Said Ros-Lehtinen, "Small business owners are the backbone of the American economy. These hardworking men and women possess the determination and the resolve to survive through difficult situations. The debilitating back-to-back hurricane seasons have left the Monroe business community in critical condition; however, I am confident that working together with the SBA, we can restore our precious communities to what they once were."
