Congressman Anthony Brown: No Amount Of Spin Can Hide The Trump Administration's Failures On January 6th

Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement on former Trump Administration officials' testimony regarding the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol:

"We cannot and should not gloss over the events of the January 6th insurrection, nor the failings of the Trump Administration to adequately respond to as a violent mob sought to overturn the results of a free and fair election. The Pentagon intentionally constrained the chain of command before these events and failed to take action for nearly an hour and a half after the initial request for additional support. The responsibility for the delayed response to this serious threat to national security and the foundations of our democracy lies squarely on former President Trump and former Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller.

"Whether these delays were the result of willful inaction, a miscalculated attempt to control the "optics' of a serious national security breach or ineptitude, the American people deserve full accountability, transparency and action to ensure this breach never happens again. The Trump Administration had no hesitation deploying National Guard to various U.S. cities to respond to protests but failed to do so when our nation's Capitol was attacked. Something doesn't add up, and no amount of spin should deter us from getting to the truth."
