Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) released the following statement in reaction to President Biden's first joint session speech to Congress:

"President Biden delivered a clear vision for our nation's recovery and restoration. Since taking office, President Biden and Democrats in Congress have provided a lifeline for families and our communities, providing assistance to those in need and ramping up vaccinations to defeat this pandemic once and for all. But now we must go bigger, in order to truly build back better.

"As Congress begins work on the transformative American Jobs Plan to invest in modern, 21st infrastructure and the jobs of the future, we know that equity must be at the forefront of our efforts. But our infrastructure is more than simply our highways, railways and transit - it's in the people of our country. The American Families Plan answers that call, to help families afford child care, ensure paid sick and family leave, guarantee higher education for every person and provide universal pre-K for every child.

"President Biden is right, the competition and threats our country faces today will require bold action and a new approach to longstanding issues and seemingly intractable conflicts. Under the leadership of President Biden, our country is ready to lead on the world stage once again. We will once again lead with our values, strengthen our alliances and end forever wars that have taken far too many American lives. As our brave women and men in uniform return home from Afghanistan, we will keep our sacred promise to all those who served and their families and ensure our servicemembers are given authorized missions that are targeted, defined and achievable.

"After a once in a generation pandemic and economic crisis, a long overdue reckoning on race and unprecedented attacks on the very foundations of our democracy, it's time to meet the moment. I believe we are up to these challenges and with President Biden, we're prepared to deliver."
