Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04), a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, released the following statement in support of President Joe Biden's American Jobs Plan:

"As we work to defeat the COVID-19 pandemic, we need a forward looking vision for our economic recovery and future. We have an opportunity to not only revitalize communities, but to build a strong foundation for future generations, with equity and justice at the center of our efforts. The American Jobs Plan is a transformative investment in our communities that will create millions of good jobs, rebuild our country's infrastructure and position the United States to remain competitive in the global economy.

"For too long, our nation's infrastructure has gone overlooked and been neglected. As a result, roads and bridges have crumbled, our electrical grid has failed, communities have lacked clean water and too many good paying jobs have been lost. This is especially true in underserved communities around our country and particularly communities of color, which have been chronically underinvested in and deliberately harmed by exclusionary infrastructure and transportation policies. This history has limited progress in these communities and harmed quality of life for residents.

"The American Jobs Plan will ensure that no community is left behind in our recovery. We'll invest $620 billion in transportation infrastructure, double federal funding for transit, modernize and make significant progress toward electric vehicles and create a new $20 billion program to reconnect neighborhoods and ensure new projects increase opportunity and advance racial equity.

"When all Americans have access to quality, affordable transportation options, modern schools, a clean and healthy environment and good paying jobs, we all thrive. I look forward to working alongside President Biden to make this vision a reality as we invest in opportunities for every community and every American."
