Joyce Signs Discharge Petition to Protect Babies Born Alive After Attempted Abortions

Tonight, Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) signed a discharge petition for the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. This legislation, of which Joyce is an original cosponsor, would mandate that infants born alive after an attempted abortion receive the same standard of care as any newborn baby born prematurely of the same gestational age.

Upon receiving 218 signatures at any point during the 117th Congress, this discharge petition would force the House to consider the legislation on the floor and be voted upon without any amendments or procedural delay tactics. Last Congress, this legislation was blocked from consideration 80 times.

"The law of the land cannot continue to tolerate one premature baby being rushed to an intensive care unit while another baby - born at the same age during an abortion - is left to die," said Joyce. "This isn't a Republican or Democrat issue. It's not even a pro-life or pro-choice issue. It's a human issue. A baby born alive during an abortion is just like any of us, a person with inalienable rights and deserving of their chance at life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I hope this important bill receives a vote on the House floor as soon as possible."
