Congress Meets through the Night to Finish Session

Fortenberry Finishes First Year

Washington, Dec 18, 2005 - U.S. Congressman Jeff Fortenberry finished his first Congressional Session around six o'clock this morning. The House was in session all weekend and will reconvene for the Second Session January 31, 2006. Fortenberry commented on the successes of the 109th Congress' First Session:

"This has been an extraordinary year of accomplishments in Congress, and for me an extraordinary privilege to serve the country," Fortenberry said. "We focused on many important issues facing our country -national security, economic opportunity and small business entrepreneurship, energy and environmental policy, and affordable healthcare.

"Furthermore, our troops have the equipment they need to defend the country and combat terrorism. Congress has also worked to protect children with the Children's Safety Act.

"The House has also passed immigration reform to address uncontrolled borders, which present serious national security threats and undermine legitimate and appropriate immigration policies. Congress has worked to extend tax relief for hard-working American families while reducing the budget deficit.

"I look forward to continue serving Nebraska in Congress as we address the issues shaping the country."
