Cong. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen Co-Sponsors Legislation That Will Protect Monroe County Hospitals

Washington, DC --- Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen co-sponsored legislation that seeks to protect Monroe County hospitals. The bill titled the Sole Community Hospital Preservation Act of 2005 would protect Sole Community Hospitals (SCH) from any decline in funding for outpatient department services. This action was recommended by the Medicare Advisory Payment Commission.

In Monroe County, there are three hospitals identified as SCH institutions. They are: De Poo Memorial Hospital, Fisherman's Hospital, and Mariner's Hospital.

Said Ros-Lehtinen, "Keeping our hospitals financially sound is a priority for me in Congress. This legislation will help our hospitals in Monroe County continue to offer the great health care that its patients are accustomed to. I urge my colleagues in the House to support this bill and give our hospitals and their staff the support they need."
