Issue Position

The legalization of recreational marijuana in New Mexico is an opportunity for the state to increase tourism, create sustainable jobs, and deliver millions in revenue to be used for public services. An adult-use cannabis industry would drive economic development in manufacturing, retail, agriculture, and beyond.

New Mexico can lead the nation with a framework for cannabis legalization that ensures equitable job creation, public safety measures, and regulation to address workplace concerns. Public officials and community members have done the work to ensure that legalization efforts to enhance medical cannabis programs are the best in the nation and equitable for all.

It is time that New Mexico legalizes recreation marijuana and seizes the opportunity of the Cannabis Regulation Act, Senate Bill 115.
