Public safety is a top priority and New Mexico must take proactive steps to ensure devastating mass shootings such as those in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas can never occur again. It is the responsibility of the New Mexico legislature to send Senate Bill 5 to the governor's office where the governor has committed to signing it into law.

Senate Bill 5 would allow law enforcement officers and household members to ask a court for an order to permit the temporary removal of weapons and ammunition from an individual who is making violent threats against himself or others.

New Mexicans deserve safe communities and the assurance of public safety to raise children, work and live. Senate Bill 5 empowers family members and public safety officer to act on threats of violence and early warning signs of harm to our community.
