Issue Position: A Fast Transition to Wind and Solar

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2020
Issues: Energy

New Mexico ranks second in the nation for solar potential and twelfth for wind. The recent Energy Transition Act will lead our state to close to 9,000 clean energy jobs by 2030 and over $4 billion in investment, and slow down climate change. Let's make sure some of those jobs are in our Senate District. I support:

Keeping the Bosque protected and and preserved, and increasing the use of conservation easements to keep our area's beautiful character

Electrification of transportation: New Mexico has one of the lowest percentages of electric vehicle usage in the country--less than 1%! We need to incentivize the use of electric vehicles through an EV tax credit that increases, the lower your household income is, and more charging stations to make EV's more accessible for everyone, whether you live in a house or an apartment building.

Energy Efficiency: One of the easiest ways to reduce carbon emissions is to assist families and businesses to make their homes and offices more energy efficient. These improvements add value to the building and reduce everyone's energy burden, of particular importance to working families.
