Issue Position: Civil Rights

Issue Position

Bob has spent his life fighting for civil rights for all. Throughout his personal and professional life, he has dedicated himself to helping others. He has been there for those in need of a voice and been a champion for people with disabilities, immigrant families, seniors, LGBTQ communities, women, and the economically challenged. He looks forward to championing these issues in Springfield.

Bob supports full equality and inclusion for all LGBTQ people, including marriage equality, access to affirming medical care, safe and affirming schools for LGBTQ youth, anti-violence initiatives, and protections against discrimination. Bob believes that people should be able to live their lives and love whomever they wish to love, without fear of attack, injury, or discrimination. Bob will defend our statutes that affirm LGBTQ people, including the Illinois Human Rights Act, and will oppose efforts to establish a license to discriminate. Bob understands that it is more critical than ever before to advocate and be a visible ally supporting the LGBTQ community.

Bob has received the endorsement of Equality Illinois.

Bob strongly believes in a woman's right to choose in the face of constant attacks on Roe v. Wade across the country and in Illinois. A woman's choice should be between herself and her doctor, not dictated by politicians.

Bob unequivocally supports the Equal Rights Amendment, which finally passed in Illinois after a 40-year effort.

He believes in a zero tolerance policy for sexual harassment and will use his position as an elected official to shine a spotlight on these abuses when they occur, always pushing for independent investigations when allegations come forth.

Bob has received the endorsement of both Planned Parenthood and Personal PAC.

We are a nation of immigrants. Bob is the grandson of immigrants, and has always viewed America as a safe haven for innocent families escaping genocide and persecution. While we must stop potentially dangerous people at the border, Bob believes we should not waste time and resources separating families, raiding homes and businesses, deporting DREAMERS, and putting innocent lives at risk.

Bob will work to protect the moral fabric of our state and our nation. Last January, Bob joined with 150 lawyers at O'Hare airport in response to the first Trump travel ban. As an Illinois State Representative, Bob will fight against the tide of President Trump's racist and xenophobic efforts to block immigrants from coming to Illinois or America. He will support cities that decline to assist federal immigration enforcement and will work with police departments so that trust is not undermined by the policies coming out of the White House.

Our state is falling short in honoring those that have served our country. We need to create job opportunities, access to health care that includes mental health services, safe government housing, and expand access to medical cannabis for veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
