Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan released the below statement following the announcement that New Hampshire's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April hit a record 16.3 percent.

"To see the state's unemployment rate hit record levels further reinforces the urgent need to get substantial additional resources to families and businesses who are hurting as a result of this crisis," Senator Hassan said. "I will continue working across the aisle in support of another Congressional COVID-19 response package that includes critical priorities such as a continuation of expanded unemployment benefits, additional direct payments to individuals and families, and support for the Granite State businesses that will play an essential role in our economic recovery. The package also needs to provide additional funding for state and local governments to help prevent additional layoffs of police officers, fire fighters, teachers, and other critical public employees."
