Senator Maria Cantwell's statement on the start of the war in Iraq:
America's deepest hope is for a swift conclusion to this war to liberate Iraq and protect the world from its weapons of mass destruction. Our prayers are with the troops for a safe and speedy return from battle and with the Iraqi people who suffer from Saddam's tyranny. I have tremendous confidence in the men and women of our armed services to bring this conflict to a successful conclusion.
