Congresswoman Miller Joins Republican Colleagues to Fight for Life

Statement

Date: Sept. 10, 2019
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Abortion

Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) joined Republican Whip Steve Scalise, Rep. Ann Wagner, and the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus today, in a hearing on the Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act.

During her testimony, Congresswoman Carol Miller said, "As a mother, I have felt life quicken in my womb and how rewarding motherhood can be. I am now a grandmother and know the abundant joy that children can bring to a family. It is shocking that House Democrats would deny children who are born alive the right to live. We must ensure that our youngest and most vulnerable members of society have the same rights granted to all Americans."

The Born Alive Survivors Protection Act would ensure any children that survive abortions receive the same rights given to any child born prematurely at the same age. Additionally, any health care practitioner would be penalized for the intentional killing of a born-alive child.

On April 2, 2019, Whip Scalise filed a discharge petition in an attempt to force a vote on the bill. Congresswoman Miller asked the House for unanimous consent of the bill on March 8, 2019, only to be denied. House Republicans have asked to bring the bill to a vote a total of 80 times, House Democrats have denied this vote each time.
