Recent progress in our criminal justice system has been remarkable, but Louisiana still has a long way to go in reforming its system. Mandie will work to ensure that continued progress is made on reform, including addressing inequities in bail and pretrial detention; no one should sit in jail on a minor charge simply because they can't make bail. Mandie also supports the legalization of marijuana in Louisiana, which would include the expungement of all criminal records related to prior marijuana convictions. Legalizing marijuana would not only be a huge financial boost for our struggling state, but would also decrease our extraordinarily high prison population, which includes a large percentage of nonviolent offenders.
