Addressing educational inequities

Statement

During Tuesday's Education and Labor hearing on the 65th anniversary of the Supreme Court's Brown v. Board of Education decision, the Education and Labor Committee heard from witnesses ranging from civil rights researchers, school officials, students and parents on various proposals to achieve educational equity. I expressed concern with the Trump administration decision to eliminate guidance created under President Obama to promote school diversity and ensure non-white students are not disciplined more harshly than their peers. Panelists agreed school districts need support from the federal government to expand educational opportunities and reduce discipline disparities. Watch my exchange here.
