Chambliss Comments On Harriet Miers Withdrawal From Supreme Court Nomination

U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., today released the following statement regarding Harriet Miers' decision to withdraw her nomination to serve on the Supreme Court.

"As I stated during the Senate's consideration of now-Chief Justice John Roberts, in my view the standard for the Supreme Court, and all federal courts, is whether a qualified nominee has demonstrated a commitment and fidelity to the rule of law. In the words of John Roberts, which I quoted in my statement of support on the Senate floor, "the legitimacy of [a judge's] action is confined to interpreting the law and not making it."

"I look forward to the President conveying to the Senate the name of a qualified nominee who has demonstrated such commitment and fidelity. I commend Ms. Miers for her grace and for her continuing public service to the President and to the Nation as Counsel to the President."
