ENSIGN REACTS TO MIERS WITHDRAWAL

Senator John Ensign released the following statement this morning in reaction to the withdrawal of Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers:

"I respect and admire Harriet Miers' willingness to subject herself to a grueling process and intense scrutiny from members of Congress, the press and the public. She conducted herself with poise and dignity at all times. I look forward to President Bush's putting another nominee forward, and I hope it is someone who believes in a strict interpretation of the Constitution as the Founders intended, who believes strongly that Congress, not the courts, makes law and who will reject the current trend of judicial activism in the courts today."
