Wittman on ACA Ruling

Statement

Congressman Wittman released the following statement on the Affordable Care Act ruling by a U.S. District Court in Texas:

"Since the day we were told we had to pass the Affordable Care Act to find out what was in it, the law has failed to deliver on its promises to lower costs, increase access to care, and expand choice. It further showed that government-run healthcare does not sufficiently address the core challenges facing our healthcare system; in many cases, physician choice disappeared and premium costs skyrocketed.

"Judge Reed O'Connor's decision is a pivotal step to repealing this legislation and replacing it with a patient-centered system that prioritizes lower costs, choice, and access. We need a healthcare system that empowers individuals and families to make decisions for themselves based on their needs, wants, and budget. We need to work to include common sense provisions that we can all agree on: ensure coverage to those with pre-existing conditions, allow young people to stay on a parent's plan, eliminate lifetime caps for insurance coverage.

"It is critical we lower the cost of healthcare and ensure all Virginians can access coverage; individuals should be able to do what's best for them, not what the government dictates for them. I look forward to working toward patient-provider centered reforms that expand choices for consumers, increase access to care, reduce health care costs, and enhance transparency in the healthcare system."
