NO MORE TAXES!!!

My first vote as your Senator was for a Senate rule requiring a 2/3rds vote to raise taxes. The voters of this state have repeatedly demanded the protection of a law that would require a super-majority in the legislature to raise taxes. Taxpayers know that these kinds of measures would force fiscal accountability in our government, but downtown Seattle ideologues blocked this at every turn.

To protect taxpayers from an income tax I sponsored SJR 8204, a Constitutional Amendment to prohibit an income tax. Taxpayers have opposed and Income Tax 9 times since 1934. While it failed the needed 2/3 majority required for a Constitutional Amendment, 33 votes, it did have bi-partisan support with majority voting in favor, 27-22.

I am a firm believer that we are being taxed too much already. The state's budget has grown at nearly twice the rate of your personal income!

Government already takes enough of your money. Just look at the record growth in government spending. It can't continue. Tax and spenders are constantly saying that their proposals will do something nice for the people. I say let you keep your own money and do something nice for yourselves. Don't be fooled by their verbal camouflage. We can do the
things that state government should do with the money you already send to Olympia. Most proposals want to tell you that they are only going to tax someone else, not you. That reminds me of a sign I saw in a pawn shop "We cheat the other guy and pass the savings onto you".

An Income Tax by any other name is still an Income Tax.
