Before serving in elected office, Tamara and her husband, Brent, served as therapeutic foster parents for the Methodist Home for Children for 10 years. Tamara has worked to reform the human services systems to support foster and adopted children and their new families, and improving the lives of persons suffering mental disabilities. In 2015, Tamara sponsored and achieved unanimous passage in both the Senate and the House for the Foster Care Family Act, and the Fostering Success bill.
