Mullin Supports 2018 Farm Bill

Statement

Date: June 21, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Markwayne Mullin (OK-2) released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 2, the Agriculture and Nutrition Act, by a vote of 213 -- 211:

"Home to over 77,000 farms on 34 million acres, Oklahoma plays an important role in food production for the country and the world," said Mullin. "The 2018 farm bill strengthens programs that are vital to Oklahoma's farmers, such as crop insurance and access to credit in difficult times. Nationwide, our farmers need certainty and security. This bill offers our agriculture community the tools they need for peace of mind and long-term success. I am proud to support the 2018 farm bill on behalf of Oklahoma's farmers so they can continue on their good work feeding billions.

"Additionally, the 2018 farm bill makes huge strides to strengthen our workforce by implementing work requirements for able-bodied adults currently receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. The American dream is built on the opportunity to earn an honest wage and provide for one's family. With over 6.7 million job openings and a booming economy, there is no better time than now to encourage work-capable individuals to start paving their way to a bright future. I am pleased to see the House include practical work requirements in this year's farm bill."
