U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement after U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman told The Times of Israel that "Republicans support Israel more than Democrats."

"I'm very disappointed by Ambassador Friedman's statement that "Republicans support Israel more than Democrats'. The United States' support for Israel has always been and remains bipartisan. As a Senator, I have been proud to work with Democrats and Republicans, with the Obama Administration and the Trump Administration, to support Israel. The U.S. relationship with Israel transcends partisan politics and American and Israeli leaders have worked for decades to keep it that way. In fact, I am currently working to pass the U.S.-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act, a bill I wrote with Republican Senator Marco Rubio, into law. The bill currently has 50 co-sponsors, 23 Democrats, and 27 Republicans.

"Ambassador Friedman should avoid these types of partisan statements and work with Republicans and Democrats to advance our important alliance with Israel."
