Press Release

Date: April 18, 2018

The Justice for Victims of IRS Scams and Identity Theft Act of 2018, authored by Congressman David Young, passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 403-3 today.

"Americans lose billions of dollars to identity theft and fraud each year, and taxpayers submit up to 14,000 reports of IRS impersonation scams every week. The Justice for Victims of IRS Scams and Identity Theft Act ensures we have the data, preparation, and ability to fight these criminals and combat scams and identity theft," said Congressman Young. "I'd like to thank my colleagues for their broad and bipartisan support of this bill and for their commitment to protecting the personal information of Americans across the country."

Congressman Young introduced a similar bill in the 114th Congress but it was not voted on. He reintroduced the bill in the 115th Congress to continue his leadership on issues surrounding identity theft. As a founder of the Bipartisan Congressional Task Force to Combat Identity and Fraud, he has worked to bring together stakeholders to find collaborative and effective ways for the federal government to be proactive and protect Iowans and all Americans.
