House passes Young's IRS FAST Act with Taxpayer First Act

Press Release

Date: April 18, 2018

The U.S. House of Representatives passed Congressman Young's IRS Fair Appeals Saving Taxpayers (FAST) Act as a part of the Taxpayer First Act by a vote of 414-0 today.

"Iowa's taxpayers shouldn't have to file a Freedom of Information Act request to get their own information when they are in the appeals process with the IRS. This why I introduced the IRS FAST Act. My bill will help taxpayers get their files faster and before an appeals process with the IRS begins," said Congressman Young. "Thank you to my colleagues for supporting my efforts to make the IRS work for taxpayers, not the other way around."

Under current law, the IRS will only turn over a taxpayers' documents through a Freedom of Information Act request, a process which most taxpayers don't know exists, is difficult to navigate, and can take months to process. The IRS FAST Act will bring more transparency to the federal government and reduce red tape when dealing with the IRS.
