Location: Washington, DC

Tonight, Congressman Tom Garrett (R-VA) released the following statement in response to President Trump's State of the Union Address:

"Tonight, the President reminded Congress and the nation that building a safe, strong and proud America begins with completing important unfinished business to ensure that our country continues to prosper, and our nation remains safe."

"From eliminating burdensome Obama-era regulations to passing the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the past year has been about empowering hard-working Americans and small businesses to make their own decisions, free from government interference."

"We cannot afford to continue the hyperbolic partisan attacks that have delayed so many important bills, and which continues to prevent meaningful legislation from being enacted. Political posturing may seem a victimless tactic to some, but it's the American people pay the price."

"The President has laid out key priorities facing our nation and Congress. It's time for us Members of Congress to roll up our sleeves and get to work for the American people. I remain committed to doing just that."
